Privacy Policy

🔒 Short version: Private PDF Scanner uploads zero data anywhere. Your scanned documents, PDFs, and files are stored exclusively on your device using AES-256 encryption. We have no servers that receive your documents — because we built it that way intentionally.
1. Who We Are
Private PDF Scanner - Offline ("the App") is developed and maintained by PTE Team ("we", "our", "us"). Contact: greene.pte@gmail.com.
2. Our Core Privacy Commitment
The App was built with a privacy-first architecture. This means:
- No document, scan, PDF, or image is transmitted to any remote server
- No OCR (text extraction) results are uploaded — all text recognition runs on-device using Google ML Kit
- No metadata about your files (names, sizes, contents) is collected
- No account registration, email, or personal information is required to use the app
3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device's local storage:
- Scanned documents and generated PDF files
- Folder structure and document organization
- App settings and preferences
- Vault-protected documents (encrypted with AES-256)
All data can be deleted by clearing app data in Android Settings → Apps → Private PDF Scanner → Clear Data, or by uninstalling the app. Vault-protected documents are encrypted and inaccessible without your biometric credentials.
4. Permissions Used
- CAMERA — Required to capture document scans. Camera access is only active while you are in the scanning screen. No images are taken automatically.
- READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — Allows saving and accessing PDF files in your device storage. Required to share files to other apps.
- USE_BIOMETRIC — Used only to unlock the encrypted vault when you choose to enable biometric protection. Biometric data never leaves your device (handled by Android BiometricPrompt API).
- INTERNET — Used only for: (1) displaying AdMob banner ads for free users. Not used for any file or data transmission.
- BILLING — Required for Google Play in-app purchase of Pro license.
5. Third-Party Services
5a. Google AdMob (Free Tier Only)
Free users see banner ads provided by Google AdMob. Google may use advertising identifiers on your device to show relevant ads. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Pro users have no ads whatsoever.
EU/EEA users: The App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request consent before serving personalized ads as required by GDPR/ePrivacy. You can always opt out of personalized ads through your device's advertising settings.
5b. Google ML Kit (On-Device OCR)
The OCR (text extraction) feature uses Google ML Kit, which processes documents entirely on your device. No document content is sent to Google servers. ML Kit runs locally with no network access required.
5c. Google Play Billing
The one-time Pro license purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. We do not receive or store payment card information. Subject to Google Play Terms of Service.
6. Biometric & Encryption Details
The Vault feature uses:
- Android BiometricPrompt API — Biometric authentication is handled entirely by the Android OS. We never see or store biometric data.
- AES-256 encryption — Documents in the Vault are encrypted using AES-256-GCM. The encryption key is derived from your biometric and stored in Android Keystore, which is hardware-backed on supported devices.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 (US) or under 16 (EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. Contact us if you believe a minor has used the App.
8. EU/EEA Users — GDPR Rights
Since we collect no personal data from you, most GDPR rights are satisfied by design. Specifically:
- Access — All your data is on your device, accessible directly in the app
- Erasure — Delete all data by clearing app data or uninstalling
- Data Portability — Export your scanned files to any location at any time via the share function
- Opt-out of personalized ads — Configurable via Android Settings → Privacy → Ads
9. California Users — CCPA
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties. California residents' rights under CCPA are honored by our no-data-collection architecture.
10. Changes to This Policy
Material changes will be announced via Google Play "What's New" section and reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
